Who Butterlag is
Butterlag is a small team with one foot in Chicago and the other in Ulaanbaatar. We believe the best collaborations feel effortless, like butter spread evenly across the bread, with nothing lumpy and nothing left out.
Our name is a reminder of that idea: a thin, even layer that holds things together. We try to be that layer for the people we work with. We listen first, explain things plainly and make sure nobody is left waiting without an answer.

Butterlag in two cities, around the clock
Chicago and Ulaanbaatar sit roughly 13 to 14 hours apart. Instead of treating that as an obstacle, we use it: when the day ends in one city it is just beginning in the other, so work can keep moving forward overnight.
Chicago gives us the energy of a big, open, Midwestern city. Ulaanbaatar gives us the perspective of a fast-growing capital surrounded by open steppe. Together they shape how we think and how we work.
